A terrific post - so informative! And sadly, very hard to imagine people giving up processed foods. In some cases, it's cheaper to buy a fast food meal than to cook for a family...

The problem is exactly that. And until we can find a way to seduce investors into investing money in healthier fields, processed foods will continue to thrive. Which is why I wonder if government couldn't insist that some of those dividends must go into natural food and farming processes - although even as I compare that idea to the initiative that dictates builders must create social as well as private housing, we all know there are enough loopholes there to ignore that legislation...

Taco Bell is famous for giving out handfuls of their sauces with every order. People have drawers full of their sachets at home, and on the trashier end of the food writing internet you can find recipes suggesting the best ways to use them all up. Taco Bell is part cult, part fast food behemoth.

Wow. That certainly explains why so many are got rid of. So: if you push enough of something you can't do much with other than accept (ideas as well as those sauces), it becomes a cult? Sounds all too plausible.

I don't know if it's true but with the rise of drive-throughs at the same time, it does make sense.
